When you start building your wedding scheme, it's always a good idea to begin with one item; be it the taco from your favourite brunching haunt, a swatch of wallpaper from your first place together, or it could just be a song that you remember dancing all night along to in the heady first days of your romance. This shoot was no different, and the starting piece of inspiration was a fabulous, hand-painted leather jacket created by blogger Paige Joanna Calvert; from there grew a scheme that needed to be unconventional yet still romantic, moody yet fun and wintery but full of colour and life. So last month, with Christmas and NYE on the horizon, Jump the Broom and a group of awesome suppliers decided to band together to create a festive styled shoot with a difference: no holly wreaths, no jingle bells and certainly no mistletoe - just a bucket load of glitter and two uber-cool brides.
Our venue was the gorgeous, traditional Rosendale in West Dulwich; with the added bonus of a Christmas-tree backdrop outside from London provider Mistletoe and Pine. It's always important for me to create inspiration shoots that are achievable and affordable for couples; as it isn't often much use falling in love with a design scheme that would, in reality, cost you thousands of pounds to recreate! So, with that in mind, the halls were decked with Locke and Busby's light up letters and eclectic glassware, disco pinatas from Pinyatay, streamers, candles and some awesome bespoke banners by Miath Co Embroidery. Tiny Sarah's Cakes offered up a towering galactic marvel in pink and purple goodness, alongside her shimmering vegan white chocolate rocky roads and cinnamon buns, whilst Dove and Myrtle created a selection of out-of-this-world blooms to add depth and femininity to the sets.
Chloe Lee Photography captured the day in all it's glittery goodness and made sure to add in her trademark, super-fun style, whilst the brides were given some serious sparkle by hair and makeup artist Natalie Danielle and rocked House of Ollichon: a non-trad bridalwear brand that specialises in cool, original and incredibly wearable outfits (just look at those jumpsuits- they were made for dancing!) Completing their looks was the bold and beautiful jewellery of Melanie Eddy and some cosmic veils by Crown and Glory.
One item is always the best way to start, from that you can build colour, mood and style whilst keeping what's 'you' at the centre of the day - so have a rummage around and find something you love, have some fun with it, run with it and don't be afraid to break the rules!
Love, Kate x
